Governance

Governance

The Governing Body is a selection of volunteers who get involved with all aspects of school life.

Their purpose is to ensure our school provides the best possible education for each of its pupils, and to enable them to reach the highest standards of achievement. The core functions of the Governing Body involve:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction for the school
  • Holding school leaders to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff
  • Overseeing financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent

If you are interested in becoming a Governor of our school, please email the office: office@clarkson.cambs.sch.uk

The Governors like to hear parents' and carers' views of the school, so please feel free to contact us with your thoughts and comments.

Sarah Knott

I am your Chair of Governors, having previously been the Chair of the Resources Committee at Clarkson since 2019. I live in a nearby local town and have two primary-aged children. I am a Health and Safety Business Partner for Cambridgeshire County Council, so have had links with local schools for many years. I am excited for the year ahead and committed to working with Mrs Kane and the other staff and Governors, to ensure that Clarkson remains a good school, building on the positive Ofsted inspection we have had this year.

If you have any questions or feedback about school, I am keen to hear from you by email at chair@clarkson.cambs.sch.uk.

Karen Crawley

I was born and have always lived in Wisbech, and actually attended Clarkson Infant School as a child, many years ago.

I have worked in education all of my life in local schools, first as a teacher and then as a Headteacher and am passionate that we provide our children with the education they deserve. I am a mum to three children and Nanny to three grandchildren, and a granddog! Since my retirement I have spent many hours looking after my grandchildren, my dogs and, when possible, socialising with family and friends.

I was delighted to be able to join the governing body as a co-opted governor and am looking forward to working alongside the staff and governors, with you, the parents, to ensure that every child receives the best education possible.

I am often at the school gates at the start and the end of the day, doing the school run, so please say hello!

Sharon Daniels

Hello, I’m Sharon Daniels and I am the Staff Governor at Clarkson School. I have been at the school for 20 years, starting off as a Parent Volunteer then onto a Midday Supervisor and Cleaner. I undertook training to become a Teaching Assistant but my role now is the Family Worker for Clarkson. I have two children who both attended Clarkson. I have good knowledge and understanding of the role of the governor and being a staff member I was able to contribute to the recent Ofsted Inspection. I am available on the gate if you have any further questions regarding the Governor role. We always love to hear from parents, so I hope to get the opportunity to meet you at the school.

Belinda Harvey

I have been associated with Clarkson Infant for  nearly 10 years. Firstly as the school’s Maths Adviser then for 5 years as School Improvement Adviser. In 2022 I became a Governor of the school responsible for safeguarding, curriculum and the Headteachers appraisal.

I am passionate about children and early education. I live in rural Suffolk and had a long and enjoyable career as an nursery teacher and primary teacher in London and Headteacher of 2 Suffolk primary schools . I continue to work for the School Improvement Service across Cambridgeshire schools. Somehow, I did this alongside bringing up a large family of 6 children! I loved their early years and especially the school holidays, spending time on the beaches of Norfolk, camping and bike riding. My children are now all grown up and after attending very good Suffolk schools are enjoying careers in graphic design, marketing, retail, photography and as a scientist researching cancer. Quite diverse interests and as a result of attending good schools. My husband and I now have much more time to walk our 2 dogs and travel!

Being a governor has meant I am getting to know Clarkson Infant school through the staff and children and working with the Julie Kane to make this Infant school even better.

Demeigh Markham

I am a new parent Governor, I have always lived in wisbech and attended this school as a child. I am a mum to 2 children. One who is currently attending Clarkson Infant School and one who has recently started in Year 3.

I have always wanted to work in a school setting so this is a nice starting point.

I currently work in care so have knowledge I can bring to my role as parent Governor in support to the children and school.

I look forward to working alongside the teachers, parents and children here at the school.

Verity McChlery

I began being a parent governor in 2022 as I wanted to help support the school in any way that I was able. I have 3 children, 2 of whom are currently attending the school. I am from Wisbech, in fact my older siblings came to this school. I am passionate about the town and have both volunteered for and been employed by local charities which benefit the people of the town. I am currently employed part time as the administrator for my church where I also serve as a deacon.

My current responsibilities are health and safety and wellbeing, both of which are essential parts of school life. I am constantly striving to increase my knowledge of the school and how everything works. There is always more to learn and I’m eager to play my part in helping Clarkson Infants and Nursery School to ‘aim high and be the best it can be’!

Nicky Ketley

I have been a co-opted governor at Clarkson School since September 2021. I am the link governor for Early Years  and for Attendance and Behaviour. Before I retired, I was a teacher at a local school where I had experience of teaching children from Nursey to year 3. I was during, my career, a member of the senior leadership team, phase leader and mentored many students and Newly Qualified Teachers. I loved my job and always did my utmost to ensure I did my best for all the children in my care.

Since retiring I have become involved in the local community, volunteering for a local charity and Wisbech museum. I sing in a local choir, play in a recorder group and have much to my surprise become a keen line dancer!

I am keen to use the skills I developed in my working life to support Clarkson school and ensure all the children in the school are happy, safe and develop to the best of their ability. It is a privilege to be working with the school and supporting it on its journey to becoming an outstanding school.
